Gianfranco Pierobon was born in Alleghe, Italy, in 1941. He received the Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Padova, Italy, in 1968. Since 1969 he is with the Department of Information Engineering, first as an Assistant Professor of Microwaves, then as an Associate Professor of Electrical Communications, and from 1985 as a Full Professor of Signal Theory.
His research activity was concerned with random processes, mathematical modeling of communication systems, optical amplification, and communication networks. He is author of several books on signal theory and stochastic processes.
His current research interests focus on source coding foundations and quantum communications.
