Biography

Roberto Corvaja was born in Padova in 1967.
He graduated at the University of Padova in Electronic Enginering on 1990 and got his Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications from the Univerity of Padova in 1994.
Since 1994 he is with the Department of Information Electronics of the University of Padova as a researcher and assistant professor on digital communications.
He spent four months as visiting professor at the University Carlos III of Madrid, Spain, during the courses 2006/07 and 2007/08.
His teching activity included in the past also several courses for telecom professionals on digital communications, fiber optic links, radio links, GSM, 3rd generation mobile systems, etc.
His research from 1990 to 1995 regarded optical fibre systems and in particular coherent optical communications. From 1995 his research activity moved to wireless communication systems, in particular he studied the effect of phase noise on several wireless communications systems.
Between 1994 and 1995 he spent 8 months at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories, Bristol (UK), working on a DSP implementation of equalization algorithms for DECT receivers.
In 1996-97 took part to the european project ACTS-“CABSINET”, whose objective was the development of a two-layer architecture for LMDS systems, at 5 and 40 GHz.
More recently his research activity concerned the digital implementation of OFDM transmission systems on DSP architectures and issues related to ad-hoc networking, such as Bluetooth and Wireless LANs, considering handover aspects, both horizontal and vertical (between different networks) handover procedures.
His research activity is currently related to the study of receiver architectures and algorithms for OFDM and MIMO-OFDM, in the presence of phase noise and fast fading wireless channels.


Research

His reasearch activity is recently concerned with the digital implementation of OFDM transmission systems on DSP architectures and issues related to ad-hoc networking, such as Bluetooth and Wireless LANs, considering the performance of handover procedures, both horizontal and vertical (between different networks).
Currently, his research activity is related to the study of receiver architectures and algorithms for OFDM and MIMO-OFDM, in the presence of phase noise and fast fading wireless channels.
